Overview
In IB programmes, teaching and learning are intentionally designed to remove barriers and affirm every student’s identity. This session—Comprehensive Design for Learning and Teaching—will ground participants in the IB’s key inclusion principles and celebrated approaches to joyful, student‑centered learning. Drawing on Learning Diversity & Inclusion standards (e.g., Student Support 2.2, Culture 2.3) and the IB’s inquiry‑based frameworks, you’ll explore concrete strategies for strength‑based curriculum design, multimodal engagement, and personalized goal‑setting. Expect interactive demonstrations and lively breakout rooms where you’ll co‑create context‑specific tools to make inclusion an everyday reality.
Session Description
We will:
Unpack IB inclusion principles to increase understanding of the learning design
Review the IB’s intentional design to remove barriers and support learner variability through policy (Student Support 2.2, Culture 2.3) and practiceExplore strength‑based curriculum design
Examine examples—text selection, multimodal tasks, student‑choice pathways—that affirm identity and prior knowledgeEngage with joyful‑learning tools
Discover how approaches to teaching (thinking, communication, self‑management skills) and playful “toys that teach” spark curiosity and deep learningExperience breakout collaborations
In small groups, share your own inclusion wins and challenges, reflect on framing questions (e.g., “How can I be curious & fun in course design?”), and co‑design one new classroom or policy interventionReflect & commit
Use the session’s key takeaways prompts—“Which insight shifted my thinking?” “How will this support our community?”—to crystallize next‑step actions
Our hope is that by the close of this session, each school team will have drafted a brief Inclusive Design Action Plan to embed joyful, barrier‑free learning across your Schoolwide IB programme.
