Belonging by design: Putting values to work
3PM - 4:30PM EASTERN - Virtual (Zoom)
Who should attend?
Administrator, IB coordinators, and teachers from any Schoolwide IB partner schools in their current planning year or already implementing their strategy.
Overview
In IB contexts, it is not uncommon for even the most prepared students to experience extreme performance anxiety, and the common expression of this anxiety is to opt out or retreat from opportunities to challenge themselves. IB education is designed to engage students in learning experiences where assessment is integrated into the holistic learning journey. This session—Belonging by Design: Putting Values to Work—explores the mission-driven strategies IB World Schools have developed to implement their Schoolwide IB plan.
Through inquiry-led approaches, participants will reflect on what they have learned during the planning year, and through networking with other schools to build on their vision for implementing their plan. We will also discuss how fostering agency and meaningful connections enhances wellbeing and academic growth for any student.
Session Description
We will:
· Use practical Schoolwide IB case studies to drive discussion to highlight successful Belonging by Design
· Share community engagement models that bridge gaps between educators, families, and local stakeholders to foster a culture of belonging
· Explore how to articulate and operationalize your school’s unique values and translate them into actionable practices
· Examine strategies for increasing student self-efficacy by relating academic rigor to individual growth, helping educators communicate that challenge is personalized rather than transactional
· Help each other to develop dynamic plans that honour progress at every milestone and encourage continuous innovation
Our hope is that by the end of the session, each school team will draft a tailored action roadmap, empowering them to put values to work and sustain a whole‑school wellbeing culture.
