Vaill, P. B. (1996). Learning as a way of being: Strategies for survival in a world of permanent white water. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass. pp. 81, 144.
How can we ever stop learning? As we discover new insights, we ought to realise how much more there is to know because our world is that complex, people are that interesting, and curiosity is what fuels our development. If only we could stay as curious as we were as children, imagine how innovative and creative we could be. Imagine the dreams we would have; imagine what we would wonder.
Peter Vaill (1996, Learning as a Way of Being, p. 144) says that Continual Leaderly Learning must be self-directed, unafraid of taking risks and willing to take on creative learning. Furthermore he reminds us that the ongoing change in the 21st century and beyond demands that learning is intentional, sought and ongoing. We must be open minded at all times since, in the context of such rapid change, "we are going to be beginners indefinitely" (p.81).
